AFC Bournemouth
kick off their historic Championship season at home to Charlton Athletic
tomorrow afternoon.
Record season
ticket sales; a match against Real Madrid, and badge rebranding are only a few
things that have happened during a crazy summer at the Goldsands but I am sure
the August 3rd is the day we have all been waiting for.
The Cherries
do not have a great recent history against the Addicks loosing home and away in
the 2011/12 season.
Charlton had
a very good first season back in the Championship last year finishing only
three points short of the play-offs in ninth place.
Manager Chris
Powell has a fully fit squad to bring down to the south coast that has been
bolstered by the recent signings of Marvin Sordell on a season long loan and
former Reading striker Simon Church on a two year deal.
The recent
surprise singing of Andrew Surman will add to competition for places in our
really strong midfield.
Charlton will
be a good first test for our squad and Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall will have a
better idea of where we stand in a competitive league.
The area most
Cherries fans are concerned about is the lack of strength in depth up front,
especially as we are unsure of the fitness of Brett Pittman, this could cause
Eddie Howe a selection problem.
If Pittman isn’t
fit the Cherries will be calling on Lewis Grabban and either Wes Thomas or
Jayden Stockley.
I personally
hope to see new signing Mohamed Coulibaly start for us tomorrow, Coulibaly has
become an instant hit with the fans after some promising pre season displays
and I am interested to see how he plays in a competitive match.
Essential Cherries
prediction AFCB 2-1 Charlton Athletic
